How to prevent the windows from fogging up in the car?
In autumn and winter, we particularly often have problems with humidity in the car, which affects the fogging up of the windows from inside the car. As cold air can store less moisture, it settles in the interior of the car, including the windows. What is the best way to prevent foggy windows? Here are some ways to keep your windows clear.
Keep an eye on water drains
One possible cause of foggy surfaces is clogged drains under the windscreen. In autumn, leaves from trees land between the windscreen and bonnet and can clog them. It is therefore important to regularly remove leaves and snow from under the windscreen wipers.
Keep your cabin filters clean
Another prime suspect when it comes to fogged up car windows is the cabin filter. The filter should be changed every 15 000 kilometres or so. A dirty filter restricts airflow in the ventilation and air conditioning - moisture does not escape from the car.
Don't bring moisture into the car
In snowy or wet weather, you should shake out your shoes and clothes well before entering the car - otherwise you will bring a considerable amount of moisture into the car. The same also applies to rain-soaked umbrellas or outdoor jackets.
Dry car mats
Floor mats absorb moisture from snow and wet shoes. If they are damp or wet, place newspaper under the rugs or take them out of the car to dry. Rubber floor mats are better for the wet winter months.
Another reason: damaged seals
Good car care reduces the risk of moisture getting into the car. Vulnerable points are, for example, the seals in windows, doors and sunroofs.
What helps when the car windows fog up from the inside?
Turn on the air conditioning: this is the most effective weapon against fogged up windows because the air conditioning dries the air. Fogged up windows will be clean within seconds.
Air conditioning pulls water out of the air. On the other hand, do not use the air recirculation setting when the car is soggy, as the moisture will only spread throughout the interior. It is also important to air the car regularly. If you park your car in a dry garage, leaving the windows slightly ajar overnight also helps.
If your air conditioning needs to be topped up, reach for an air conditioning refill kit from AC FIX.
